Three days of music with Devils in nature

The niche that DEVILSTONE Open Air fills is that of metal music and alternative culture alongside cultural tourism and the enjoyment of nature. It is the antidote to mass culture, the alternative for those searching for a more unique artistic/musical and recreational experience. The project is designed to be continuously improving, and its goal is to be an annual festival of extreme music, sitting shoulder to shoulder with the established European festivals, representing the Lithuanian metal music scene.

At the core of the three day feast – extreme, modern sounds, a wealth of rebellious spirit and at the same time, a look at noble, meaningful cultural values, cherished since the ancient times. An escape from the over-crowded cities to the depths of Lithuania’s stunning countryside, to Anykščiai, surrounded by ancient legends and untouched nature. The location alone is worth the trip...

DEVILSTONE Open Air – is firstly a musical celebration, based on live, heavy, extreme music and honest sounds, delivered by both established and more “underground” talents from all over Europe and beyond. The festival is open to all extreme music styles, from melodic heavy, pitch black, grim death, sharp thrash to melancholic doom, gothic, rich progressive, and many other genres, never being limited to particular style.

The festival is not limited to just the music; it is aimed to include other activities, promote other flavours, especially those that support the core concept of the event. One of the cornerstones on which the festival is based is the location. The inspiring surroundings present the opportunity to admire not only the musical performances, but also to appreciate the cultural heritage. The wonderful nature of Aukštaitija (upper Lithuania region), glorified by literary homages for centuries, surrounds the intimate town of Anykščiai, noted for its recognised geniuses. It is very easy to believe in the magical power of this land, awakening one’s creativity, inspiring talent…..

The legend of the huge Puntukas stone purposefully lies at the root of the DEVILSTONE name. The rock has been carried above the town by the Devil, aiming to crush the Anykščiai church. But he failed, dropping the stone just where he stood at the moment when a cock scared him away as dawn broke. Some marks are still visible on the stone. The locals say that these are scratches of the Devil’s fingers and nails. Let it be the symbol of the festival, interpreted in a modern way: there are no attempts on the church, but a rush of rebellious and devilish energy, echoing the thunder of the legendary stone, is fateful and unavoidable in Anykščiai Dainuva valley...
